Legacy Circle

The sole mission of Wells College is to educate students. You can become a part of their future and Wells’ enduring traditions by consider a planned gift.
Future giving is a promise that the college will remain strong for succeeding generations of students. Many individuals devoted to Wells who came before you have left their legacy now it’s your turn.
What is the Legacy Circle?
A distinguished group of individuals who have made plans to secure the future of Wells into its next 100 years and beyond. More specifically, the Wells College Legacy Circle is a way of referring to that very special group of alumnae and friends, who, through contracted trusts, annuities, pooled income funds, life insurance, and estate planning, have provided a significant gift that Wells will receive at some time in the future. These gifts, most of which are designated for the enrichment of the college’s endowment, will continue to strengthen Wells in perpetuity.
The name Legacy Circle was chosen because a “legacy” is a gift for the future, a gift that is frequently not fully appreciated until sometime after the creator of the legacy is gone. A “circle” is a group of persons sharing a common interest or revolving around a common center. In this case, the common interest, the common center, is Wells College. Because of the special commitment the Legacy Circle members have made to Wells College, their generosity is helping to keep that circle whole.
If you wish to make a gift to Wells during your lifetime but want yourself for someone else to receive income from the principal, you can establish a trust, an annuity, or a pooled income fund. The income is available to you for life, and also to another beneficiary. Upon your death and the death of your beneficiary, the principal passes to Wells. Or, a trust can be established whereby the interest goes to Wells for a period of time and the principal then passes to your named beneficiary. There are considerable income and estate tax benefits to charitable trust arrangements.
